Pulling the head out of your Mach 3 Combo

Yes, the head comes out. Depending on your amp's build date, it's held in by four or six screws through the end flanges. Remove those and the head lifts free. One important caution: do not remove the screws around the Quilter logo on top of the head, or the screws above the serial number on the back. Those hold internal parts in place, and backing them out can loosen things up and void your warranty.
