Why does reverb sound louder with drive than with a clean tone?

As far as we know, every reverb does this to some degree. An overdriven signal carries more energy than a clean one at the same level, so the reverb tail it feeds ends up sounding louder. It's the nature of the signal going in, not a quirk of any one pedal.
