Sample rate, bit depth, processor speed: why we don't chase the numbers

There are a few specs we deliberately don't publish, because in our experience they have little to no bearing on how a pedal actually sounds. Bigger numbers rarely mean better tone — quoting them tends to mislead more than inform: - Sample rate — bigger isn't inherently better (unless latency is the concern), especially once you're past the bandwidth of the input signal or of human hearing. - Bit depth — nearly all digital gear is at least 24-bit these days. - Processor speed — means little on its own. Modern DSPs run many operations in parallel, and an elegant, optimized algorithm often outperforms a sloppy one on a faster chip. The specs that do matter live in our User Guides: - Frequency Response - Latency (and remember, an analog dry path means no latency) - Total Harmonic Distortion - Signal-to-Noise Ratio And the spec that matters most is how it sounds — that one's your call.
