Running an external preamp or modeler into your amp

You've got a couple of good options. Into the FX Return: connecting an external preamp here bypasses everything but the Reverb and Master controls. Your external source mixes 50/50 with the internal preamp, so you can dial in each and A/B them just by swapping inputs. A few things to know when using the FX Return: - It also bypasses our internal clipping circuit, so nothing stops the amp from exceeding its intended 200W maximum. The amp will shut down if grossly overdriven, but your speaker is likely to fail first — so watch your volume. - If the FX Return signal seems low, boost it by putting a dummy plug in the FX Send. That disconnects the internal preamp and raises the FX Return's input impedance. Into the guitar input: if you'd rather keep the calibrated peak-power limits shown on the Master (and still have access to our rich, chewy overdrive), connect your preamp to the regular guitar input instead.
